GUH Staff Recognition Award

Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is delighted to announce that the second Staff Recognition Award was presented to Joe Kelly who has been providing the regional printing service for the hospital and other HSE services in the West for many years. Joe was presented with his award shortly before his retirement this week after 38 years of service.

New Consultant Neonatologist appointed to Galway University Hospitals

Dr Johannes Buca Letshwiti has recently been appointed as a Consultant Neonatologist at Galway University Hospitals (GUH).

Of his appointment, Dr Letshwiti commented, “I’m excited about the prospect of expanding the neonatal services in the West of Ireland and I’m looking forward to being part of the team leading on this field within the Saolta Group. I have a special interest in quality improvement projects and neonatal haemodynamics.”

GUH’s participation in Medtech Pulse Galway

Professor Derek O’Keeffe, Consultant Endocrinologist at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) and Professor of Medical Device Technology at NUI Galway took part in the Medtech Pulse event hosted by the university on 21 February. The event, in partnership with Bank of Ireland and Atlantic Bridge University Fund, offered insights into the medtech sector in Galway including the role of education, research, acceleration and commercialisation.

New Consultant Appointments at Galway University Hospitals

Three new Consultants were recently appointed to Galway University Hospitals (GUH): Prof Derek O’Keeffe, Consultant Endocrinologist; Dr Andrew Smyth, Consultant Physician; and Dr John William McEvoy, Consultant Physician.

Launch of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust exhibition

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust has launched Art@Work 15, an exhibition by hospital staff running from 17 December until 31 January. The exhibition was officially launched on Monday December 17 on the Art Corridor of University Hospital Galway by His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Níall McNelis.

New Robotic Surgery at University Hospital Galway

Saolta University Hospital Group in conjunction with Cancer Care West recently introduced Robotic Surgery at University Hospital Galway.

The surgical robot is currently being used by the urology team at the hospital and so far this year 60 men have had their prostate surgery undertaken by consultant urologists at the hospital using this new technology.

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust Presents ‘Gardenland’ by Fiona Cawley

On Friday November 2nd at 6.30 pm, ‘Gardenland’ an exhibition by artist Fiona Cawley will open on the Arts Corridor of University Hospital Galway and will be on display until November 29th 2018. Cawley is an artist living in Kinvara, Co. Galway. She graduated with a BA Art and Design Degree from the Centre for Creative Arts and Media, GMIT in 2015 and was awarded a GMIT Academic Achievement Award.

GUH Arts Trust Winter Raffle to raise funds for arts programme

This November sees the beginning of the inaugural Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust Winter Raffle to raise funds for the work of the organisation. The draw will run over a period of 4 consecutive weeks beginning with week 1 on Friday November 16, week 2 on Friday November 23, week 3 on Friday November 30th and the Grand Finale on Friday December 7. Each draw will be held in the main foyer of University Hospital Galway on the above dates at 1pm lunchtime.

Staff Recognition Awards launched at Galway University Hospitals

Galway University Hospitals has launched new Staff Recognition Awards which will be presented each quarter to one staff member who has been nominated by colleagues for exceptional effort and contribution in the area they work.
