Launch of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust exhibition

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust has launched Art@Work 15, an exhibition by hospital staff running from 17 December until 31 January. The exhibition was officially launched on Monday December 17 on the Art Corridor of University Hospital Galway by His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Níall McNelis.

Art@Work is the annual exhibition of work by staff from Galway University Hospitals and is now an annual event during the Christmas season. This year’s exhibition showcases work from staff from Cardiology, Dialysis, Services, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Radiotherapy, Haematology, Histopathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Nursing, Administration, Community Healthcare West, Finance, Social Work, hospital volunteers and retired staff members.

In his opening address Mayor Níall McNelis stated, “I’m delighted to be here to open this exhibition having been a supporter of the work of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust for many years. The arts are so important in healthcare contexts; particularly in the areas of mental health and wellbeing.  This area is full of bright, vibrant colours, often the only colour a person might see in a day.  Not only are staff doing a great job on the front line but also sharing their creativity with patients and the general public”.

Margaret Flannery, Arts Director said, “On behalf of the Arts Trust we would like to thank the staff from University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital who are participating in our fifteenth exhibition.  Each year we are excited as we curate the exhibition and see the development of our regular contributors; while being introduced to new work by immerging talent. Thank you for sharing your work with us and giving our hospital community an opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the creativity of our colleagues”.
