Mayo University Hospital Oncology Haematology Unit

Our unit aims to support, guide and educate you through your cancer journey that is about to begin.  All of our staff here are committed to giving you the best care possible and to treat you with dignity, respect and sensitivity.

If you are diagnosed with cancer, your consultant may recommend that you are treated with Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) at our Oncology Haematology Unit at Mayo University Hospital. 

Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) is any drug treatment used to control or treat cancer. 

The drug treatment types may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy or a combination of these.

Our Oncology Haematology Unit is a day unit and is open plan with 10 reclining seats.

You will need to register at the front desk at the main hospital reception before each appointment at the Oncology Haematology Unit.

Opening hours: Our Oncology Unit is open from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.30pm.  Our clinics run from 9am to 1pm.

Out of hours emergency calls: After 4pm and at weekends please phone your GP, Westdoc or University Hospital Galway on 091 524222 and ask for the Oncology / Haematology Registrar (doctor) on call.
 

For Chemotherapy patients only: 
If you are acutely unwell / temperature above 37.5 C and do not speak to someone within 30 minutes, please attend local Emergency Department

Directions: Our Oncology Haematology Day Unit is located on the first floor of the main hospital.
Parking: There is one public car park on site. There are no specific spaces for oncology patients.  We will stamp your parking ticket when you are leaving the day ward so that you can get free parking.  There are some disabled parking bays at the front of the hospital.
