Major milestone reached in the treatment of prostate cancer in Galway University Hospitals

Last month the Radiation Oncology team in Galway University Hospitals (GUH) marked a major milestone in the treatment of prostate cancer as the 1,000th patient underwent prostate seed implantation at the hospital.

Prostate seed implantation is a type of radiation therapy in which tiny radioactive metallic seeds are surgically placed inside the prostate gland. This treatment (also knowns as brachytherapy) delivers a high dose of radiation directly to the prostate.

Saolta University Cancer Network progresses to next stage of European accreditation

Saolta University Cancer Network are delighted to have progressed to the next stage of accreditation with the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI).

The OECI Accreditation and Designation programme is considered internationally as the gold standard for cancer care. It focuses on enabling a complete quality system for cancer diagnosis, care, education and research.

The Saolta-University of Galway Cancer Seminar Series takes place Monday March 4th, at 1pm with Rachel Macken and Martina Kinnane, Senior Medical Social Workers GUH, presenting "Oncology Social Work: A Systemic Focus - Ar Scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine"

All hospital and university staff, trainees, and students are welcome to join in person or online.
