RUH appoints First Acute Medicine Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Audrey Dalton Gleeson has been appointed as the first Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) in Acute Medicine at the Medical Assessment Unit, Roscommon University Hospital. RANPs are the highest level of clinical experts in the nursing profession in Ireland today.

A mother of two children and a grandmother of two, 66 year old Rose Mannion originally from Cloghan, County Offaly and now living in Lorrha in North Tipperary was admitted to Portiuncula University Hospital on 28 March with COVID-19. Rose spent a total of 81 days in the Intensive Care Unit between Portiuncula University Hospital and University Hospital Galway.

Virtual Outpatient Clinics take place at Mayo University Hospital

In response to the COVID outbreak, the Orthopaedic and Physiotherapy teams at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) developed virtual clinics to assess patients with fractures who could be managed remotely. With the support of hospital management and co-operation from Radiology, Administration and Nursing staff, the special clinics have minimised hospital visits for hundreds of patients, keeping them safe at home as much as possible

The Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Mr Sandeep Kumar visited Sligo University Hospital today, 01 July to thank the management and staff of the hospital for the great work carried out to date with the COVID-19 outbreak. Roscommon University Hospital using ‘Photo Triage’ during COVID-19 Pandemic

The Plastic Surgery Department at Roscommon University Hospital has been using a ‘photo triage’ process to identify patients who require an urgent consultation, to replace face-to-face consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deidre Jones, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon said, “When our ‘See and Treat’ skin cancer clinics were suspended due to COVID-19, we set up a new pathway to identify patients who required urgent consultation.

New Cardiac Care Unit in place in Mayo University Hospital Routine Cardiology Services have resumed at the hospital

Cardiology outpatient appointments and clinics are now gradually resuming at Mayo University Hospital (MUH). In addition, a new dedicated Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) has opened in the hospital. The unit, which was developed as part of the hospitals COVID-19 planning, has resulted in an increase of 12 monitored specialist cardiology beds.
