Letterkenny General Hospital picks up award

Recently the Emergency Abdominal Surgery Course (EASC) was  awarded two significant  peer judged regional and national awards for medical education.

The course developed in Letterkenny Hospital under the Donegal Clinical Research Academy mentorship,  recently was the recipient for the National Irish Health Care Awards held in the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin on November 6th and the  Saolta University Health Care Group CEO Awards in Galway on November 7th.

 

First Meeting of Patient Council for Saolta University Health Care Group

A total of 16 members of the public were appointed to the inaugural Patient Council for Saolta University Health Care Group, which had its first meeting last week.

Letterkenny General Hospital leading the way in improving outcomes in Breast Cancer Surgery

Three medical students / summer research fellows linked to Letterkenny General Hospital, the Donegal Clinical Research Academy and University Hospital Galway have undertaken work to identify new potential techniques to reduce the volume of breast removed during conservative breast cancer surgery.
 
The three students - Dearbhla Hillick, Eoghan Shanley and David Sciascia – have been funded through public donations from members of the public in the North West.
 

Technology being used to reduce the ‘no shows’ at appointments at Galway University Hospitals

Galway University Hospitals is working to reduce the number of patients who do not attend their outpatient appointments and who do not tell the hospital in advance that they will not be attending.
 

Letterkenny General Hospital

The Emergency Department (ED) at Letterkenny General Hospital returned to normal after three hours off-call at 11pm on Tuesday night when a clean up was completed in the reception and administrative areas that had experienced a very low level of flooding following torrential rain in the Letterkenny area. Clinical areas in the ED and hospital services in general were not affected.
 
The external cleanup is now complete.
 

Letterkenny General Hospital

An investigation has commenced into the flooding at Letterkenny General Hospital last night (August 5) following torrential rain in the Letterkenny area.

The road and hospital car park adjacent to the Emergency Department (ED) became flooded and a low level of water leaked into the ED’s reception and administrative areas. The hospital’s ED went off call for three hours from 8pm to 11pm to expedite the clean up after which services returned to normal.

GUH staff to speak at launch of the Amulet Exhibition Tour Opening

“The Amulet” Exhibition Tour opens at Galway Arts Centre on 01 August 2014 with a panel discussion at 4pm in Áras Na Gael, 45 Dominick Street Lower, Galway.

 

Amulets are special objects often hidden away in drawers and cupboards which mark a significant time, occasion or person in our lives.

 

Official opening of the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Unit at University Hospital Galway

An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD officially opened the new Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Unit at University Hospital Galway today, Monday 28 July.
 
The new unit is a dedicated specialist facility for day care and outpatient services for children with cystic fibrosis where they can be treated in an optimal physical environment to reduce the risk of infection, which can have a serious impact for patients with CF.
