Portiuncula University Hospital is one of three hospitals nationally to participate in the HSE’s Hand Hygiene Train the Trainer and hand hygiene awareness programme (Resist) which is aimed at all healthcare workers and everyone who comes to the hospital.

Patients and Staff in Irish hospitals to receive a ‘Menu of Poems’ for Poetry Day Ireland

To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland on Thursday 02 May 2019, a ‘Menu of Poems’ will be distributed throughout Irish hospital wards, waiting rooms and other healthcare settings for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. The poetry was selected by Dublin poet Ailbhe Darcy.

Letterkenny University Hospital is inviting Families who have lost a baby to a Snowdrop Art Workshop on 16 May

The Maternity Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital is organising a remembrance art project for families who have lost a baby before, or shortly after birth. 

In collaboration with HSE Create-A-Link, families are being invited to visit the Create-A-Link art studio on the Pearse Road, Letterkenny on Thursday 16 May anytime from 11.30am to 7pm to draw a snowdrop on a canvas which will be later displayed in the stairwell of the Maternity Unit.

Sligo University Hospital opens a New Maternity Outreach Clinic in Ballymote

From Wednesday 24 April, Sligo University Hospital will be providing a weekly outreach antenatal and gynaecology service from the Ballymote Primary and Mental Health Care Centre.

Patient Forum at Letterkenny University Hospital – the volunteer’s perspective

Muriel Perry, Chairperson of the Patient Forum at Letterkenny University Hospital, first joined the forum when it began ten years ago and has been an active participant ever since. Muriel, who is from Magheracorran, Convoy is one of three members of the Patient Forum who have been there since the very beginning. The others are Philomena Roarty from Manorcunningham and Madge Robson from Letterkenny.

A number of patients who have recently attended University Hospital Galway have notified Management of the hospital that they received a letter by post from an organisation called “The Anglo American Lottery”. This correspondence states that person they are writing to has won a European Hospital Patient Lottery administered by Anglo American Lottery.

We have followed up with the patients and the Data Protection Commissioner has been advised and the issue is being investigated.

An Post issues a special stamp to highlight organ donation

An Post has issued a special national postage stamp highlighting the importance of organ donation to the lives of people living in Ireland ahead of Organ Donation Awareness Week which runs from 30 March to 06 April.

The Organ Donors Save Lives stamp will raise awareness of the gift of life that is organ donation with donor cards also available in every Post Office.

Letterkenny University Hospital’s Text Reminder Service

Letterkenny University Hospital has introduced a text reminder service for patients who have outpatient appointments at the hospital. From this week the text reminders will be rolled out to all outpatient clinics on a phased basis.
