Work is currently underway at Mayo University Hospital to re-introduce clinics and services that were deferred over the last number of months.

Roscommon University Hospital’s Endoscopy Department achieves JAG Accreditation

Last week, following completion of an in-depth accreditation checklist and site assessment earlier this year, the Endoscopy Department at Roscommon University Hospital was successfully awarded accreditation through the UK-based accreditation programme for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy known as the Joint Advisory Group or JAG. The JAG accreditation is regarded as one of the most innovative in the healthcare sector and focuses on a model of care which is patient-centred and work force based.

Communities coming together to support each other during the COVID-19 pandemic was symbolic during a time of unprecedented change. One such support to Sligo University Hospital came from Sligo Grammar School and its Headmaster Michael Hall.  The school offered its car park and facilities to the hospital at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Occupational Therapy Department at Mayo University Hospital are inviting family and friends of patients in the hospital to email a letter, photo or video which will be printed, popped into an envelope and delivered to their loved one in hospital. Videos are loaded onto a tablet which is brought to the patient’s bedside to view.

Supporting heart failure patients to avoid hospital during COVID-19 pandemic

The cardiology team at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) has carried out a first-in-man clinical trial for a sensor which detects changes in the health of patients with heart failure and securely transmits the information to the care team for review, allowing for clinical intervention to prevent a heart failure flare-up resulting in urgent hospitalisation.
