As part of and Arts and Health project for Galway 2020, artists Sarah Fuller and Manuela Corbari responded to the ever-changing challenges presented by COVID-19 and the needs of the paediatric setting by designing a bespoke shadowbox theatre which is being shared with children in paediatric units in the Saolta Group including University Hospital Galway (UHG) along with Mayo University Hospital, Portiuncula University Hospital, Sligo University Hospital and Letterkenny University Hospital.

The COVID 19 vaccination programme across County Roscommon has now moved to the newly established Vaccination Centre located in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. On 06 January a programme of vaccination of frontline healthcare workers commenced at Roscommon University Hospital, with the vaccine offered to healthcare workers across the hospital, community and other healthcare workers in the county.
The COVID-19 vaccination programme for County Mayo has now moved to the newly established Vaccination Centre in Breaffy House, Castlebar. Over the coming weeks the programme to vaccinate health care workers across hospital, community and other health care workers continues in the new facility and vaccination teams will prepare for the site to be used as a Vaccination Centre for the wider public.
The COVID 19 vaccination programme for health care workers and those medically vulnerable very high risk patients in Cohort 4 across county Donegal has now moved to the newly established Vaccination Centre in the IT in Letterkenny.
Covid-19 vaccinations continue at the Galway Racecourse vaccination centre in Ballybrit. Hospitals in Saolta University Health Care Group are identifying patients who fall into Category 4a and 4 b (very high-risk patients) who require vaccination. This is a large group of patients, we are contacting them by text or telephone informing them of the date and time of vaccination appointment. Please follow the instructions and attend for your vaccination.
Letterkenny University Hospital has filmed a virtual tour of the Maternity Unit which is now available to view online here
The aim of the tour is to allow expectant mothers and partners/family members to view the interior of the Maternity Unit and hear staff talk about maternity services.
Sligo University Hospital (SUH) has completed construction on a new and improved helipad at the hospital at a cost of €300,000.
The Air Corps 112 Emergency Aeromedical Service (EAS) and the Irish Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 118 carried out the first test landings on the new helipad at the hospital last month. Safety checks and test landings will continue and the helipad will be fully operational later this month.
Healthcare staff across Galway are now being vaccinated in the newly established Vaccination Centre in the racecourse in Ballybrit. Healthcare staff from Galway University Hospitals, Community Healthcare West and staff from agencies funded by the HSE are now being provided with their COVID-19 vaccine at the racecourse.
