National Ambulance Service and Roscommon University Hospital agree new pathway

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) and Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) have agreed a programme that will allow for some patients to be transferred directly to RUH if they meet strict criteria.

The programme which involves strict clinical and geographical criteria will see a small cohort of stable medical patients transferred by NAS to the Model 2 site for treatment.

Reduction in number of visitors to Portiuncula University Hospital can help protect vulnerable patients

Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) has asked families and loved ones of inpatients at the hospital to ensure that numbers of visitors are kept to a minimum in order to minimise the exposure of vulnerable patients to viruses.

The hospital has also reminded visitors that mask wearing is mandatory in all areas of the hospital. This is to protect patients and staff.

Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) remains under significant pressure as a result of high attendances along with COVID-19 and flu outbreaks at the hospital.

There were 116 attendances at the Emergency Department (ED) yesterday (Monday). As of 8am today (Tuesday), there are 56 patients awaiting admission in ED. Many of those attending need to be admitted for ongoing treatment which is leading to pressure on bed availability.

Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) remains under significant pressure as a result of high attendances along with COVID-19 and flu outbreaks at the hospital.

There were 144 attendances at the Emergency Department yesterday, Thursday 29 December. As of 2pm today there are 31 patients awaiting admission in ED.  Many of those attending need to be admitted for ongoing treatment which is leading to pressure on bed availability. 

Norovirus outbreak at Mayo University Hospital

Due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) in one of the wards in Mayo University Hospital (MUH), the hospital is advising that visits to the affected ward will be restricted to those who have reason to visit on compassionate grounds.

MUH is also requesting that people do not visit the hospital if they are feeling unwell form symptoms of winter vomiting or flu like symptoms.

COVID-19 and Flu outbreaks at Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital (SUH) has advised that it continues to operate under pressure as a result of COVID-19 and flu outbreaks at the hospital. Whilst outbreaks are impacting a number of wards throughout the hospital, two wards (Surgical Gynae and Medical 7) have restricted visitor access. As of 8am today, there are 18 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

Mayo University Hospital wins Gold Happy Heart Award

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Gold Happy Heart Award to the catering team Mayo University Hospital in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.

The Awards were launched by the Irish Heart Foundation almost 30 years ago to encourage healthcare catering facilities to adopt healthier cooking practices and provide strategies to promote healthy choice.
