As part of the delivery of the Saolta Healthy Ireland Implementation Plan 2015-2017, the group has developed a new resource to support the health and wellbeing of staff and patients and build capacity to implement health and wellbeing activity.
Members of the Connacht rugby squad joined staff from the Saolta University Health Care Group and HSE to launch the Group's flu vaccine campaign at University Hospital Galway on 28 September. This year, the Saolta Group and the HSE are particularly requesting health care workers to get the vaccine to protect themselves, their families and their patients.
Galway University Hospitals and Saolta University Health Care Group, in collaboration with the founder of the Butterfly Scheme, Barbara Hodkinson, officially launched the ‘Butterfly Scheme’ in Galway University Hospitals on Wednesday 21 September. The Butterfly Scheme allows people with temporary confusion, memory loss and dementia to make this fact clear to hospital staff and provides staff with practical training to offer a simple, five-point, targeted response to meet their needs.

Roscommon’s first ever weekly support group for stroke survivors will be launched by the Irish Heart Foundation and members of the Roscommon University Hospital stroke team at a public information evening in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon on September 29th.
Galway University Hospitals Stoma Care Unit is holding a free public information meeting for anyone who has had stoma surgery on September 21st next at 6.30pm in the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway. Family, friends and carers are also welcome to attend.
Entitled “Living with a stoma“, the evening will focus on quality of life issues and looking at positive influences on living with a stoma.
World Sepsis Day (WSD) saw initiatives in all hospitals across the Saolta University Health Care Group to promote sepsis awareness amongst hospital staff, patients, relatives and members of the public.
WSD was marked this year across all hospitals in the Saolta Group and the improvements made in sepsis identification and treatment throughout the hospitals were highlighted for patients and staff.
The Diabetes Unit, University Hospital Galway are organising a 50km cycle for diabetes. The cycle will take place on Sunday 02 October at 9.30am from the Claddagh Hall Galway. Registration for the cycle is available here
The monies raised will go to Diabetes Care West for educational and activity events for people with Diabetes.
