University Hospital Galway (UHG) has purchased two twin cots for the Neonatal Unit using funds donated by parents and members of the local community.
Dr Johannes Letshwiti, Consultant Neonatologist at the hospital said, “We are delighted to have twin cots in our Neonatal Unit. For the babies who are suited to spending time in the twin cots, they can continue to experience the close proximity to their baby sister or brother that they had before birth.
Mrs Sabina Higgins has this week officially launched Saolta Arts, the new name for Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust. Mrs Higgins also formally launched Offset, a new exhibition in University Hospital Galway.
The original arts programme was established in Galway University Hospitals (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital) in 2003 to provide art events and activities for the hospital community.
The Infection Prevention and Control Team at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) won two categories at the recent Hospital Professional Awards – the GSK ViiV Infectious Diseases Project of the Year Award and the Consultant-led Hospital Team of the Year Award.
The Home First Team is a specialist team supporting patients over the age of 75 who are treated in the Emergency Department (ED) and the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) in Mayo University Hospital.
Prof Nash Patil, Consultant ENT Surgeon at Sligo University Hospital (SUH) is collaborating on a National Clinical Programme for ENT Education to train GPs to carry out ear-suction procedures for adults with a range of common ear complaints.
Speaking of the significances of the project Mr Patil said, “The ultimate aim is to develop a network of GPs around the country who are trained to carry out ear-suction procedures so that their patients can be treated in their own GP practice.
Sligo University Hospital welcomed Jim Daly TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for Mental Health and Older People, to the hospital this week to view the new ‘Attend Anywhere’ Pain Clinic in action which allows patients to connect directly with clinical staff from the comfort of their own home.

In response to feedback from last year’s National Patient Experience Survey, Roscommon University Hospital has introduced a number of new initiatives to enhance the patients’ experience at the hospital. These include a new Patient Information Booklet and Folder and Patient Comfort Packs.
To celebrate and mark International Men’s Health Week, the Research & Education Foundation at Sligo University Hospital hosted a free Men’s Health and Wellbeing event at the Sligo Park Hotel this week.
