Roscommon University Hospital and the Saolta Staff Recognition Awards 2019

Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) won Saolta Staff Recognition Awards in two categories at a ceremony in Mayo on Friday evening.

The Rapid Access Haematuria Service Team won the Award for ‘Award for Innovation in a Clinical Area’ and the ‘Outstanding Employee Award’ was presented to Noreen Fallon, Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Galway University Hospitals and the Saolta Staff Recognition Awards 2019

Galway University Hospitals won Saolta Staff Recognition Awards in three categories at a ceremony in Mayo on Friday evening.

The Maternity Department won the ‘Award for Innovation in a Non Clinical Area’ for their work on a maternity website, the ‘Quality Improvement and Patient Experience Award’ was presented to the Patient Flow Improvement Team and the ‘Outstanding Employee Award’ was given to Catherine Cunniffe who works in the bed management office.

Celebrating World Prematurity Day at University Hospital Galway

To celebrate World Prematurity Day 2019, the staff from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital Galway will be hosting an event in the main foyer of the hospital on Friday 15 November from 09.30am to 2pm.

Launch of new International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative at Galway University Hospitals

The Speech and Language Department at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is taking part in a worldwide launch of a new grading system for modified diets/fluids for people with Dysphagia, which is the medical term for swallowing difficulties.

Bereavement Information and Awareness Event at Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital is holding a Bereavement Information and Awareness Event in the main foyer of the hospital on Wednesday 06 November from 10 am to 2.30pm.

This is the fourth year that the event has taken place in the hospital and it is open to members of the public and staff of the hospital.

A group of health and social care professionals at Galway University Hospitals will be holding a Career’s Evening for secondary school students in Galway City and County on Wednesday 06 November from 6pm in the Clinical Sciences Institute on the grounds of University Hospital Galway.

Minister for Health visits Portiuncula University Hospital for update on new 50 Bed Ward Block

Staff from Portiuncula University Hospital welcomed Minister for Health, Mr Simon Harris TD to the hospital today (Friday 01 November) where he received an update on progress on the new 50 bed ward block.

Visiting Restrictions in place in University Hospital Galway due to Norovirus

University Hospital Galway is asking people to comply with visitor restrictions on St Pius’s ward due to a number of cases of the vomiting bug (Norovirus) on the ward.

In order to assist staff in curtailing the spread of this virus, it is imperative that only essential visiting takes place during this period. Children should not visit the hospital as they may be particularly susceptible to the illness.

World Stroke Day at Letterkenny University Hospital

Letterkenny University Hospital together with the Donegal Stroke Support Groups hosted a very successful stroke prevention information stand in Letterkenny Shopping centre to mark World Stroke Day on Tuesday 29 October.

Information was provided on stroke prevention; FAST ‘Time is Brain’; smoking cessation; blood pressure checks; dietary and lifestyle advice.

Cavan Family’s Donation to the Coronary Care Unit at University Hospital Galway

The family of Mrs Mae Reilly from Finea in County Cavan donated a cheque for €800 to the Coronary Care Unit at University Hospital Galway in recognition of the care and respect shown to their mother Mae during her stay in UHG earlier this year. Also, as Mae was transported by helicopter to UHG, the family donated a cheque for €700 to the Community Rapid Response Unit in Cork.
