Celebrating International Nurses Day at Sligo University Hospital

On International Nurses Day (Thursday 12 May) two Sligo based nurses, who are also cousins, reflect on their experience of nursing as a profession.

Marion Ryder, Director of Nursing in Sligo University Hospital is preparing for retirement next month after 42 years’ service, while her cousin Emily Ryder is just starting her nursing journey in the Emergency Department at the hospital.

Over the August bank holiday weekend, Sligo University Hospital took part in the “Big Switch Off” organised by the Office of Public Works and the HSE’s National Health and Sustainability Office. The aim was to conserve as much electrical and thermal energy as possible across the campus over the weekend and the efforts will be repeated over the October bank holiday weekend.

Sligo University Hospital signs up to NCHD E-Rostering

Sligo University Hospital Medical Specialty has partnered with Allocate Software to implement E-rostering software for NCHDs. A Project Board was set up with project clinical lead Katherine Finan  as executive sponsor. It approved a local team consisting of a Project Manager and Systems Administrator, to work with Allocate. The initial scope of the project is to deliver “Medics On-Line” and “Medics on-Duty” to 50 NCHD staff from the Medical Specialty.

Sligo University Hospital launches Calorie Posting Policy as part of HSE’s Healthy Ireland Policy

Sligo University Hospital officially launched their Calorie Posting Policy on Wednesday, 01 March, 2017. As part of the HSE’s Healthy Ireland Policy, Sligo University Hospital began rolling out the HSE Calorie Positing Policy back in October 2015 and introduced a 6 Phase Plan to complete this process for all hot and cold food items and beverages in the staff canteen/coffee dock.
