A new €1.4m day care centre for patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) was officially opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, today, Friday 15th January at Mayo University Hospital. The new centre will, for the first time, provide dedicated facilities for all of the regular out-patient and day care needs of children and young people with CF in the greater Mayo area.
The Saolta Hospital Group’s Atlantic Diabetes in Pregnancy Service (Atlantic DIP) under the leadership of Professor Fidelma Dunne has received over €825,000 in research funding from the Health Research Board (HRB) for clinical and health service research on diabetes before, during and after pregnancy.

Staff in Sligo University Hospital recently began implementing the HSE Calorie Posting policy in the hospital’s canteen and the calorie content of all food served at breakfast is now displayed. Both staff and visitors got involved in the launch.
On Monday next, 21 December, the ChorSoc from University Hospital Galway will be in Mayo University Hospital singing carols from 11:30 to 11:45am in conjunction with the organised events being broadcast from Mayo University Hospital by Community Radio Castlebar. After that they will travel on to Sligo University Hospital where they will sing their full carol programme from 3pm approximately.
On 14 December, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD officially launched the Mayo Medical Academy, an NUI Galway partnership with Saolta University Health Care Group and Mayo University Hospital for the training of doctors. The Academy is housed in a purpose-designed facility located in the former chapel on the grounds of Mayo University Hospital.
Saolta University Health Care Group/ University Hospital Galway is again appealing to the public to keep the Emergency Department for emergencies ONLY and to contact their GP or GP Out of Hours services where possible as the hospital prepares for INMO industrial action in its Emergency Department from 2pm to 4pm tomorrow (Tuesday December 15).
Roscommon University Hospital held a Caring Behaviours Assurance System – Ireland (CBAS – I) Awareness Day this week in the hospital. The event was attended by nursing staff from the Hospital.
