UHG statement regarding INMO industrial action

INMO industrial action: appeal to public

Saolta University Health Care Group/ University Hospital Galway is again appealing to the public to keep the Emergency Department for emergencies ONLY and to contact their GP or GP Out of Hours services where possible as the hospital prepares for INMO industrial action in its Emergency Department from 2pm to 4pm tomorrow (Tuesday December 15).

Ms Chris Kane, General Manager, University Hospital Galway stated, “The Emergency Department is already very busy today and we expect the industrial action to have an impact on the ED throughout the day on Tuesday and into Wednesday. We need the cooperation of the public to ensure that emergency cases can get proper attention.

“Patients in the vicinity of Roscommon University Hospital are reminded that the hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit is open in the Urgent Care Centre every day (including weekends) from 8am to 8pm.
“Our objective is to minimise, in so far as is possible, the impact of this industrial action on patients. All essential treatment, like cancer care and kidney dialysis, will continue as normal. And clinic appointments and planned diagnostic tests or scans will continue as normal. So unless they have been otherwise notified direct by us, all other patients with hospital appointments tomorrow should keep their appointments.”
