University Hospital Galway Choir in Christmas Carol performance at Mayo University Hospital and Sligo University Hospital
On Monday next, 21 December, the ChorSoc from University Hospital Galway will be in Mayo University Hospital singing carols from 11:30 to 11:45am in conjunction with the organised events being broadcast from Mayo University Hospital by Community Radio Castlebar. After that they will travel on to Sligo University Hospital where they will sing their full carol programme from 3pm approximately. They are doing this for the enjoyment of patients, visitors and staff in the hospitals of the Saolta Group.
The GUH Choral Society is made up of staff from right across the hospital network. Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Radiotherapists, Radiology staff, Community Care, Psychiatry are all represented. With a busy and successful year behind them, they sang at a memorial in the Peace Park in Salthill in May and at the Claregalway Festival in July along with their annual recital in the hospital. As well as the events detailed above, they will also be singing carols on the wards of UHG from 6pm on Tuesday next 22 December.
The choir performed for charity in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church earlier this month and last weekend on Shop Street in Galway, where they raised €1,500 to assist Blood Bikes West continue to provide a valuable free service to the HSE and other Acute Hospitals in Ireland. They sang for Staff and Visitors last Tuesday (15th) in the Foyer of UHG.
