Portiuncula University Hospital awarded Gold Happy Heart Award

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Gold Happy Heart Award to Portiuncula University Hospital for a third year running in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.

Portiuncula’s Study of Sporting Injuries

The Advanced Nurse Practitioners  working in the Emergency Department at Portiuncula University Hospital carried out an audit of all sports related injuries they treated at the hospital from January to March 2018. The aim was to identify the prevalence of minor sports injuries with a view to identifying further opportunity for health promotion and education.

Bernard Jackman supporting ‘End PJ paralysis’ initiative at Portiuncula University Hospital

Bernard Jackman, former Irish rugby union player who played for Connacht, Leinster and Ireland showed his support for Portiuncula’s ‘End PJ paralysis’ campaign at the hospital today.

For the next 8 weeks, staff at the hospital are focusing on getting patients who are well enough, to get out of bed, get dressed and get moving.

The Maternity Unit at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) held a very successful information sharing event for staff and former and current patients of the unit, last Friday 01 March in Ballinasloe.

Portiuncula University Hospital offers Hypnobirthing Classes

Over the past two years, 12 midwives working at Portiuncula University Hospital have completed a Diploma in Hypnobirthing which allows them to facilitate antenatal classes for birthing mothers planning to have their babies at the hospital.

‘Whose Shoes’ information sharing event for the Maternity Unit at Portiuncula University Hospital

The Maternity Unit at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) is holding an information sharing event for staff and former and current patients of the unit on March 1st next.

‘Whose Shoes’ is a maternity experience workshop that brings together women (and their partners should they wish) and maternity staff to share experiences and learning.

Portiuncula University Hospital’s Research Day

Portiuncula University Hospital held its second annual Research Day at the hospital on Friday 18 January. The event was organised to showcase the research and audit work undertaken at the hospital and 7 oral presentations and 23 posters were presented by staff from all disciplines including the Emergency Department, Physiotherapy, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Nursing, Radiology, Medicine and Surgery.

Portiuncula University Hospital appoints a Bereavement Support Midwife

Portiuncula University Hospital is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma McArt as a Bereavement Support Midwife for the hospital. Emma has extensive clinical expertise and has experience of counselling with regard to non-complex bereavement issues.

Irish Cancer Society launches Cancer Information Point at PUH

The new Cancer Information Point was officially launched at Portiuncula University Hospital by the Irish Cancer Society and is now open and accessible to the public.The Information Point, located in the front foyer of the hospital, provides cancer information to hospital patients and out-patients as well as visitors and the general public.
