Visiting Update for Roscommon University Hospital

Following new national guidance on visiting, visitors to all hospitals will be asked to produce their EU Digital COVID Certificate or HSE COVID-19 Vaccination Record or other proof of immunity at the entrance. Visitors may be asked to show some photo ID to prove that the proof of immunity is theirs.

There are exemptions from the requirement for the EU Digital COVID Certificate or HSE COVID-19 Vaccination Record or other proof of immunity, on compassionate grounds.

Walk-in Clinics in Roscommon for Booster Vaccines for People in their 60s and Healthcare Workers

This weekend Kilbride Vaccination Centre will be holding walk-in booster vaccination clinics at specific times for healthcare workers and people aged 60 to 69 who have reached an interval of at least 152 days since their second dose vaccine. People in these two groups that received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine can also get their booster at the walk-in clinic this weekend if they have an interval of at least 3 months since their vaccination.

Roscommon Injury Unit is here for you this Winter

As winter takes hold Roscommon University Hospital is reminding people that their Injury Unit is open from 8am to 8pm, every day of the year to treat a wide range of injuries which are non-life or non-limb threatening, as an alternative to visiting an emergency department. The Injury Unit is staffed by Doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Nurses.

Saolta staff supporting UNICEF’s Childhood Immunisation Programme

This year staff working in hospitals in the Saolta Group are supporting UNICEF’s Childhood Immunisation Programmes through the ‘Get a Vaccine, Give a Vaccine’ flu initiative.

Positive Ageing Week – Nutrition Advice from Roscommon University Hospital

To mark Positive Ageing Week which runs from 27 September to 01 October, the Frailty Intervention Team at Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) would like to offer advice on healthy eating for older adults.

Fiona Finneran, Senior Frailty Dietitian at RUH said, “As we age we don’t always absorb the nutrients from our food as well as we used to and as a result our body muscle starts to decline. The good news is we can counteract some of this by eating a balanced diet.

Opening Hours:    8.00am to 8.00pm daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Charges:               Medical Card Holders – No Charge
                               Medical / GP referral letter - No Charge
                               Review appointment – No Charge
                               Non-medical card holders (without a GP referral letter) – Currently €75
                               Non-EU short term visitors – Currently €200

After 8.00pm or for injuries outside the remit of the Injury Unit please contact your local GP or go to your nearest Emergency Department.

  • Suspected broken bones in legs from knees to toes
  • Suspected broken bones in arms from collar bone to finger tips
  • All sprains and strains
  • Facial injuries (including oral and nasal injuries)
  • Minor scalds and burns
  • Wounds, bites, cuts, grazes and scalp lacerations
  • Small Abscesses and boils
  • Splinters and fish hooks
  • Foreign bodies in eyes/ears/nose
  • Minor chest injuries
  • Minor Head injuries (fully conscious patients, who did not experience loss of consciousness or vomit after the head injury)
  • Road Traffic Accident – delayed presentations only
  • Change of Indwelling Urinary Catheter (Adults only)
  • Peg tubes re-insertion (Adults only)
  • Dislocated shoulders (Adults only)
  • Any child younger than 5 years of age
  • Any child aged 5 years or older with a non-traumatic limp or non-use of a limb
  • Conditions due to “Medical Illness” fever, seizures, headache respiratory symptoms
  • Injuries following a fall from a height or a road traffic accident
  • Serious head injuries
  • Chest pain
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Abdominal pain
  • Gynaecological problems
  • Serious neck/back pain
  • Pregnancy related conditions
  • Pelvis or hip fractures

Parking is available in designated car parks on the hospital campus and is free of charge. There are spaces allocated for patients
with restricted mobility. Overflow parking is available in the public car parking area outside Dr Hyde Park (GAA Grounds) adjacent
to the hospital. This public car parking area is also free of charge. If you or your passengers have restricted mobility and require
