Norovirus outbreak at Mayo University Hospital

Due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) in one of the wards in Mayo University Hospital (MUH), the hospital is advising that visits to the affected ward will be restricted to those who have reason to visit on compassionate grounds.

MUH is also requesting that people do not visit the hospital if they are feeling unwell form symptoms of winter vomiting or flu like symptoms.

COVID-19 and Flu outbreaks at Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital (SUH) has advised that it continues to operate under pressure as a result of COVID-19 and flu outbreaks at the hospital. Whilst outbreaks are impacting a number of wards throughout the hospital, two wards (Surgical Gynae and Medical 7) have restricted visitor access. As of 8am today, there are 18 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

Mayo University Hospital wins Gold Happy Heart Award

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Gold Happy Heart Award to the catering team Mayo University Hospital in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.

The Awards were launched by the Irish Heart Foundation almost 30 years ago to encourage healthcare catering facilities to adopt healthier cooking practices and provide strategies to promote healthy choice.

Due to an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug (Norovirus) in the hospital and a high level of COVID-19 and flu cases, University Hospital Galway is appealing to the public not to visit the hospital if they are feeling unwell or have respiratory symptoms.

Cheque presentation to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund in University Hospital Galway

A generous donation of €3,240 was recently presented to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund at University Hospitals Galway (UHG) in memory of the late Durcan Forde from Sickeen, Woodquay in Galway who had been a patient in the oncology day ward for two years.

New Videofluoroscopy Service for Portiuncula University Hospital

Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) recently introduced a new Videofluoroscopy Service for patients in the hospital who need an x-ray assessment of their swallow.

The videofluoroscopy service is led out by the Speech and Language Therapy Department in partnership with the Radiology Department.

Roscommon University Hospital is delighted to announce that Dona Cromar has recently been appointed as a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) in Emergency Nursing at Roscommon Injury Unit.  RANPs are the highest level of clinical experts in the nursing profession in Ireland today and are transforming services for patients through an expanded scope of practice, greater clinical autonomy and decision-making.

Mayo University Hospital welcome publication of HIQA Inspection Report

Mayo University Hospital welcomes the publication of the HIQA report on the inspection of MUH which took place in August 2022. 

The focus of the inspection was to monitor the National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare. HIQA’s inspection focused on key standards relating to capacity and capability under the themes of leadership, governance and management and workforce.

The inspection visited the emergency department, a medical ward and a surgical ward.

Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure with high attendances and long wait times in our Emergency Department in recent days.

All available beds are in use. Every effort is being made to discharge patients who are ready to go home so that beds will become available for patients who need to be admitted, at the earliest opportunity.
