Project to build a new Paediatric Outpatient Unit for Patients with Cystic Fibrosis underway at Galway University Hospitals

Work on a new Outpatient unit for children with cystic fibrosis at Galway University Hospitals commenced today when the first sod was turned on the new build.
 

GUH Choral Society - Supporting Arts Projects for Hospital Patients

GUH Choral Society will perform a Christmas Carol Service on Saturday December 14 at 8.00pm in Christ the King Church in Salthill in aid of Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust. GUH Arts Trust runs the west of Ireland’s leading Arts and Health programme as a means of improving the hospital experience for patients, visitors and staff.
 

GPs from Donegal attend the Eighth Annual HSE West Clinical Workshop at Sligo Regional Hospital

The eighth annual HSE West Clinical Workshop took place on Saturday 30 November 2013 at Sligo Regional Hospital. The Workshop brought together General Practitioners from South Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and Roscommon, Consultants from Sligo Regional Hospital and management representatives from both hospital and community services to discuss a range of commonly encountered conditions and their management.
 

Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe is now a smoke free campus

Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe (PHB) introduced a smoke free campus policy on Monday 02 December.
 
It is no longer possible to smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds, for example entrances, doorways, walkways, internal roads, car parks, cars, bicycle shelters etc.

GUH leads international training on revolutionary new treatment for high blood pressure / stroke prevention

Galway University Hospitals will become the first hospital in the UK and Ireland to provide training on a new treatment for high blood pressure called renal artery denervation.
 

New Interim Outpatient Department for Letterkenny Hospital Opens

The rebuild programme at Letterkenny Hospital is underway involving a number of projects being worked on simultaneously, prioritising key patient areas.
 
The Outpatient Department was one of the areas damaged by flood waters and Outpatient clinics were relocated to a number of different temporary locations within the hospital and around the town and county.
 

Mayo General Hospital hosts Antibiotic Awareness Day

Last week (Tuesday 26 November), Mayo General Hospital hosted an Antibiotic Awareness Day to promote antibiotic awareness both for the general public and for staff. The event was organised by the hospital’s Infection Control Team who were on hand to answer any questions and to provide information. They also organised an antibiotic awareness quiz with prizes.
 

New Oncology and Haematology Inpatient ward opens in Sligo Regional Hospital

The newly upgraded Oncology and Haematology inpatient ward in Sligo Regional Hospital will be officially opened at 3 o'clock this afternoon, Friday 29 November, by broadcaster and publisher Ms Norah Casey in the presence of staff, past patients, patients' families, and fundraisers.

“Partnership and Innovation” Conference
The first conference of the West/North West Hospitals Group took place in Galway on Wednesday 27 November with presentations from leading national and international health care experts. The conference was held in partnership with NUI Galway and hosted more than 140 healthcare leaders from around the country and international guests.
