6th annual Ecumenical Memorial Service for deceased patients
Galway University Hospitals has announced the date for the 6th annual Ecumenical Memorial Service for deceased patients of the hospital. This will be held on Thursday October 22nd at 7pm in the staff canteen at University Hospital Galway.
The service is organised by a subgroup of the End of Life Care Committee together with the hospital Chaplains. Mr. Ray Gately, Chaplin from Merlin Park hospital, will lead the service and will be assisted by Rev. Gary Hastings, Church of Ireland, Imam Shiekh Khalid Sallabi, Galway Islamic Culture Centre, Fr. Rob McNamara and Rev. Helen Freeburn, Galway’s United Methodist Presbyterian Church, who will deliver the homily.
Staff from different departments in the hospital will participate in the readings and will assist in the candle lighting ceremony which is a very important part of the service. Staff will also provide the music.
Tea & coffee will be served after the service to provide the families who attend an opportunity to meet with staff that cared for their relatives through their illness in a supportive and empathetic environment.
