“Lost” a photographic exhibition by photographer Seamie Gallagher opens this week on the Arts Corridor at University Hospital Galway

An exhibition of photographs titled “Lost” by photographer Seamie Gallagher is currently on display on the Arts Corridor at University Hospital Galway. The exhibition runs until Friday 04 April and members of the public are welcome.
 
Seamie Gallagher lives in Macroom, West Cork surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, from the Gearagh which is the remains of the only ancient post glacial alluvial forest in Western Europe to Gougane Barra with its breathtaking scenery and forest walks. These beautiful landscapes are nevertheless permeated with a sense of loss, akin to the feeling in the abandoned houses he has discovered. His current work explores these forgotten spaces, the unexpected vistas that lie all around us, attempting to highlight the hidden beauty of these lost places. This is his first exhibition.
 
Speaking of his first exhibition, Seamie Gallagher said: “My passion for photography began when I was given my first film camera while in GMIT studying Textiles. In my recent work, I have focused my attention on nature and the abundance of natural beauty all around us. I capture surroundings that people tend not to notice on a regular basis, inviting the viewer to contemplate the prosaic in a fresh light.”
 
Margaret Flannery, Arts Director at Galway University Hospitals commented: “When programming an exhibition for the hospital we look for work that is accessible and which will engage the hospital community. Seamie’s work does this and also forms a rich narrative capturing forgotten traces of lives lived that we can all relate to.”
