In the West for the Visit of Pope Francis? The Roscommon Minor Injuries Unit is here if you need it
With around 45,000 people heading to Knock Shrine for the visit of his holiness, Pope Francis on Sunday 26 August, Roscommon University Hospital would like to remind people that the hospital’s Minor Injuries Unit will be open from 8am to 8pm to treat minor injuries in adults and children over the age of 5.
Mary Garvey, General Manager, Roscommon University Hospital said, “There will be people from all parts of the country in Knock on Sunday. We will all be hoping for a repeat of the summer sunshine and for everyone to have a fantastic experience and come home safe and happy.
“In the unlikely event that you or a family member picks up a minor injury that needs hospital attention, remember that our Minor Injuries Unit can treat a wide range of minor injuries including broken bones, dislocations, sprains, strains, wounds, scalds and minor burns that will not need admission to hospital. Staff in our Minor Injury Unit perform x-rays, reduce joint dislocations, apply plaster casts and treat wounds by stitches or other means.
“The Minor Injury Unit at Roscommon University Hospital is only 58km from Knock and depending on where you live, it may be easier to get to Roscommon than one of our sister hospitals in Mayo or Galway. On average patients who attend the Minor Injury Unit are treated and discharged with 58 minutes of arrival.”
