Launch of Children’s Remembrance Day Christmas Tree Lights and Cards at UHG
The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee at University Hospital Galway celebrated the launch of their Christmas cards and lights on Tuesday 05 November.
In December, the Christmas tree will be erected at the entrance to UHG and people can sponsor a light on the tree as a dedication to a loved one. Many families have loved ones who have emigrated and will not be home for Christmas. This is a thoughtful way of letting them know we miss them. Each light sold comes with a card which may be sent to the person/family for whom the light is sponsored or kept in memory of a deceased person.
Susan Massey from the Children’s Remembrance Day Committee explained, “This year’s card has a removable section. This can be detached and placed on the recipient’s tree linking them with the tree at the hospital, and the person who has sent the card. In this way we are letting family and friends know that our thoughts are with them in a special way.
“We are delighted that Seán Bán Breathnach was here with us today to formally launch the Christmas cards and lights. The lights go on sale in the main foyer of UHG from Friday 22 November until Saturday 07 December between 9am and 7pm. The lights cost €5 each and the funds raised are used for the annual activities organised by the Children’s Remembrance Committee. Remaining funds are used to enhance the facilities within the hospital for bereaved families.
“We will be switching on the Christmas tree lights on Sunday 08 December at 4.45pm; the afternoon’s festivities will commence at 3pm with music from The Conquerors and Friends and we will have Christmas Carols sung by the boys and girls from Scoil Cathríona Renmore. The committee are hoping that Santa may also pay a visit”.
