Letterkenny Project Commended for “Improving Working Lives” at UK Awards

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH), along with three UK NHS Health Services, was shortlisted for the 2018 Allocate UK and Ireland Awards under the “Improving Working Lives” category. The Allocate UK and Ireland Awards recognise those who create new ways of working to meet the demands of modern healthcare organisations.

The LUH project looked at an online solution to match the availability of temporary staff with available shift work.

Sligo University Hospital participates in the October ‘BIG Switch Off’

Sligo University Hospital “switched off” last weekend in the final phase of a major energy saving competition, called the ‘BIG Switch Off’.

The BIG Switch Off is a staff energy awareness campaign run by the Office of Public Works (OPW) as part of the Optimising Power at Work Programme. In partnership with the HSE’s National Health Sustainability Office (NHSO, six hospitals are participating in the competition, aiming to be named Energy Saving Champion by the OPW and the NHSO.

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust Presents ‘Gardenland’ by Fiona Cawley

On Friday November 2nd at 6.30 pm, ‘Gardenland’ an exhibition by artist Fiona Cawley will open on the Arts Corridor of University Hospital Galway and will be on display until November 29th 2018. Cawley is an artist living in Kinvara, Co. Galway. She graduated with a BA Art and Design Degree from the Centre for Creative Arts and Media, GMIT in 2015 and was awarded a GMIT Academic Achievement Award.

Cheque Presentation to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund in the Corrib Ward at UHG

Ms Ciara Ni Fhatharta and her Father Colm O Fatharta from Inis Meain, Aran Islands, Co. Galway recently presented a cheque for €2,000 to the Oncology Patient Comfort Fund, University Hospital Galway (UHG). The donation was made in memory of Finuala Lynch Faherty, a retired public health nurse on Inis Meain, who had been a patient in the Corrib Ward. The money was raised by friends and family who made donations at the time of the funeral.

Awards Success on the Double for Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital won the Public Sector Award in the SEAI Sustainability Energy Awards which took place last night in Dublin. The award recognised the efforts by the hospital, with support from HSE North West Estates, to focus on energy reduction and energy saving initiatives.
