The Board of the Galway and Roscommon University Hospitals Group met in Roscommon Hospital yesterday (Monday 25 March); this was the second meeting of the full board since the non-Executive Directors of the Board were appointed in January.
 

Second Validation Project to Tackle Outpatient Waiting List Underway at Galway University Hospitals

The outpatient waiting list is a major challenge for the Galway and Roscommon University Hospital Group. The Department of Health’s Special Delivery Unit (SDU) has set a target that by November 2013 no patient should wait longer than 12 months for an outpatient clinic appointment and this is a primary focus of the Group in 2013.
 

‘Something to Sing About’ wins Astellas Changing Tomorrow Award

‘Something to Sing About’- a network of choirs for cancer survivors founded by Galway University Hospital’s Dr Paul Donnellan – has won an Astellas ‘Changing Tomorrow’ National Award. The award recognises the achievement of Irish health professionals striving to make a better future for their patients.
 

National Newborn Hearing Screening Programme goes live at Galway University Hospitals

The National Newborn Hearing Screening Programme has been introduced at Galway University Hospitals (GUH). Newborn hearing screening has been part of the service at the hospital for a number of years and in 2011 the HSE contracted Northgate Information Solutions to roll out a national screening programme at all maternity hospitals in the country.

The 2011 Annual Report for Symptomatic Breast Care Services at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) was launched on Friday 22 February at the Symptomatic Breast Unit.
 

Free Heart Health Screening at Roscommon Mart a huge success!

On Friday 08 February the Cardiac Rehabilitation Service at Roscommon Hospital along with Croí West of Ireland Heart and Stroke Centre, offered free heart health screening for farmers at the Roscommon livestock Mart.
 
The free cardiac risk assessment included a pulse check, blood pressure check, weight and body mass index measurement and dietary and physical assessment.
 

Galway and Roscommon University Hospital Group tackles the Outpatient Waiting List

One of the priorities for the Galway and Roscommon University Hospital Group (Galway University Hospitals, Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe and Roscommon Hospital) in 2013 is to address the outpatient waiting list and to meet the Department of Health’s Special Delivery Unit (SDU) target that no patient should wait longer than 12 months; this target has to be met by the end of November.
 

Galway University Hospitals raises awareness of Oesophageal Cancer

Galway University Hospitals is holding an information day on Friday 22 February to raise awareness about oesophageal cancer. The event will take place in the main foyer of UHG from 10am until 3pm and Clinical Nurse Specialists in Upper GI Cancer and Colorectal Cancer will be available to talk to members of the public who may have concerns or questions.
