The conference was held in partnership with NUI Galway and hosted more than 140 healthcare leaders from around the country and international guests.

Update on the West / North West Hospitals Group at the Regional Health Forum

Bill Maher, CEO of the West / North West Hospitals Group and Tony Canavan, Chief Operating Officer attended the Regional Health Forum Area West meeting in Galway today and provided an update on a number of developments in the Hospital Group.
 
In addition, Tony Canavan read a statement* with an update following the completion of the three investigations which followed the tragic maternal death case at UHG last year.
 

Countdown to a Smoke Free Campus at Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe

Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe (PHB) is introducing a smoke free campus policy on Monday 02 December.
 
From this date it will no longer be possible to smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds, for example entrances, doorways, walkways, internal roads, car parks, cars, bicycle shelters etc.

The Orthopaedic and Rheumatology departments at Galway University Hospitals are holding a free public information evening on bone health – “Looking after your bone health, what you need to know” - on Wednesday 27 November from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Salthill Hotel, Galway.
 

Palliative Care Teams – The Gatekeepers to integration with all Specialties to enhance patient’s quality of living and dying

The 4th International Palliative Medicine Conference takes place on 22 and 23 of November in the Radisson Hotel, Galway.  The conference which features 40 expert speakers from Ireland, UK, New Zealand and Australia is organised by Dr Dympna Waldron, Palliative Medicine Consultant, Galway University Hospitals and Clinical Lecturer NUI Galway.
 

Galway University Hospitals’ Diabetes Team wins 2013 Healthcare Award

An initiative to introduce structured education programmes for people with diabetes by the Diabetes Education Team at Galway University Hospitals has won the “Patient Lifestyle Education Project” category at the Irish Medical Times 2013 Healthcare Awards.
 
The project involves providing structured training to people with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes so that they can develop the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully self manage their chronic illness.
 

Roscommon Hospital in association with Galway University Hospitals wins 2013 Healthcare Award for the Rheumatology Telemedicine Service

The Rheumatology Telemedicine Service at Roscommon Hospital in association with Galway University Hospitals won the “Best use of Health Technology” award at the Irish Medical Times 2013 Healthcare Awards.
