Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Events This Week

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day takes place each year on 15 October. As part of this global initiative to recognise, acknowledge and  remember babies who have passed away due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, and other causes of infant loss, a number of events are taking place in Saolta hospitals. 

University Hospital Galway
University Hospital Galway will hold a virtual candle lighting memorial ceremony on Friday 15 October at 6.30pm in the hospital chapel which will lead into the international wave of light at 7pm. The candle lighting ceremony in UHG will be available to view live online at www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/uhg-chapel. The ceremony booklet is available here.

As part of the international wave of light on Friday 15 October, the gable end of the Nurses’ Home in UHG will be illuminated with blue and pink light to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Sligo University Hospital 
Sligo University Hospital will be lighting up in pink and blue on Friday 15 October at 7pm to mark pregnancy and infant loss as part of an international event aimed at raising awareness of the issues affecting families who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or a baby. The hospital is joining this global wave of light in honour of parents who are grieving the loss of their baby.

Portiuncula Uniervsity Hospital 
Portiuncula University Hospital will also be illuminated by pink and blue light on Friday 15 October from 7pm as part of an international Wave of Light. In addition the hospital is holding a candle lighting ceremony beside a remembrance tree in the hospital foyer from 7pm to 8pm in honour of parents and families who are grieving the loss of their baby.
