Our Lady’s Hospital awarded Bronze Happy Heart Award

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Bronze Happy Heart Award to Our Lady’s Hospital, Manorhamilton in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.

The aim of the awards program is to assist workplace restaurants to adopt healthier cooking practices and provide healthier food choices.

Care Virtual Ward Donegal wins HSE Excellence Award

CARE Virtual Ward Donegal has won a HSE Excellence Award in the Improving Patient Experience category.

The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee in UHG launch their annual ‘Sponsor a Christmas Tree Light’

The Children’s Remembrance Day Committee at University Hospital Galway (UHG) has launched its annual ‘Sponsor a Christmas Tree Light’ 2024.  The sale of the lights was officially launched by Santa Claus.

A light can be sponsored on the Christmas tree at University Hospital Galway in memory of the deceased or as a gift to a loved one. These lights give families an opportunity to remember their loved ones in a special way over the festive season. 

University Hospital Galway first in the country to use new Biological Aortic Heart Valve

University Hospital Galway is the first hospital in the country to use a new biological aortic heart valve, putting it at the forefront of valvular heart surgery.  

Surgical aortic valve replacement is a surgical procedure in which a diseased aortic valve is removed and replaced with a new tissue-based or mechanical valve. This takes over the original valve’s function to enable oxygen-rich blood to flow efficiently out of the heart.

Roscommon University Hospital to hold Memorial Mass

Roscommon University Hospital will hold a Memorial Mass on Thursday,  21 November at 7.30pm in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon in memory of those who died in the hospital between 2020 and 2022. The Mass will also remember those people who were brought to Roscommon University Hospital after they had passed away in the community.  

The Mass aims to provide a space to support families in the grief they are experiencing, in a respectful and empathetic way.

Five People living with lifelong diabetes honoured at special awards ceremony

On Tuesday, 12 November at a special awards ceremony held in the Diabetes Centre at Sligo University Hospital, Diabetes Ireland honoured five people living with type 1 diabetes with special 50-year achievement medals in recognition of their courage and endurance in living with diabetes.

The five recipients from across Sligo, Donegal and Roscommon who attend the Diabetes Outpatients Clinic at Sligo University Hospital, all received a 50-year achievement medal.

New Chronic Disease Hubs Provide Vital Supports for People Living with Diabetes

People living with diabetes in the West, who are benefiting from faster access to specialised care as a result of the new HSE Chronic Disease Hubs, have praised the enhancements in diabetes care as they prepare to mark World Diabetes Day on 14 November.  The move away from hospital-based care means that patients have access to highly specialised clinical teams, closer to their home.
