Following a successful site visit to Roscommon University Hospital on the 9th May 2016 by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the posts of Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) Diabetes and RANP Emergency (Minor Injuries) have been recommended for approval to the NMBI Board.
Congratulations are extended to Ms Margaret Kelly RANP Diabetes and Ms Maggie Mew RANP Emergency, and all staff who contributed to this milestone for Roscommon University Hospital.
The Emergency Department in University Hospital Galway is extremely busy this morning with significant numbers of patients awaiting admission to the hospital. Five wards have now been closed to admissions due the presence of Norovirus (Winter Vomiting Bug) which has further limited our capacity. We apologise to patients and their families for these delays.

University Hospital Galway is asking people to comply with visitor restrictions on St Mary’s and St Teresa’s wards due to number of suspected cases of the Vomiting Bug (Norovirus).
In order to assist staff in curtailing the spread of this virus, it is imperative that only essential visiting takes place during this period. Children should not visit the hospital as they may be particularly susceptible to the illness.
To celebrate Poetry Day On Thursday 28 April 2016, a Menu of Poems called ‘Soul Food’ will be distributed throughout Irish hospital wards, waiting rooms and other healthcare settings for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy. The poetry was selected by award winning poet Colette Bryce. Bryce visited Ireland for the Cúirt International Festival of Literature, where she read at an event and launched the Poems for Patience Series at University Hospital Galway.

A Healthy Ireland Initiative ' Swap and Save' was launched at Portiuncula University Hospital Catering Department on 13 April in relation to soup and salad items. Also on the day the initiative highlighted the calorie count of two popular lunch items, which highlighted a significant difference in calorie counts.
