An Environmental and Energy Awareness Day for staff and visitors to the hospital took place on Monday 25 November as part of European Waste Reduction Week.

The first conference of the West/North West Hospitals Group took place in Galway on Wednesday 27 November with presentations from leading national and international health care experts. Letterkenny Hospital and the Donegal Team - “Charity begins at home: The GAA and Organ Transplantation”

The renowned transplant surgeon, Mr David Hickey, gave a moving, accurate and up to date lecture as guest speaker at Letterkenny General Hospital’s Research Day Symposium last week (Friday 22 November).
 
Mr Hickey was invited by Mr Charles McManus, Director of Medical Education at Letterkenny General Hospital and Team Physician to the Donegal county footballers, to give a talk on the volunteerism that forms the bedrock for both organ transplantation and grass roots GAA.

Update on the West / North West Hospitals Group at the Regional Health Forum

Bill Maher, CEO of the West / North West Hospitals Group and Tony Canavan, Chief Operating Officer attended the Regional Health Forum Area West meeting in Galway today and provided an update on a number of developments in the Hospital Group.
 
In addition, Tony Canavan read a statement* with an update following the completion of the three investigations which followed the tragic maternal death case at UHG last year.
 

Countdown to a Smoke Free Campus at Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe

Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe (PHB) is introducing a smoke free campus policy on Monday 02 December.
 
From this date it will no longer be possible to smoke anywhere on the hospital grounds, for example entrances, doorways, walkways, internal roads, car parks, cars, bicycle shelters etc.
