Galway University Hospitals to hold annual Ecumenical Memorial Service

Galway University Hospitals End of Life Care Committee will hold their annual Ecumenical Memorial Service on Thursday, 12 September at 7.00 pm in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill.

Claire McHugh, Clinical Nurse Manager, Corrib Ward, explains, “As staff we welcome the opportunity to acknowledge the loss for the bereaved family together with honouring and remembering the special people whom have died in our care. The aim of the service is to provide a spiritual space to support families in the grief they are experiencing in a supportive and empathetic environment.

“The theme of this years’ service is ‘Memories’ and we are delighted to welcome back guest speaker Dr Helen Greally, Director of Psychology and Support Services, Cancer Care West.”

The service will be led by hospital staff with representation from Church of Ireland, Methodist and Islamic as well at the Catholic Faiths.

Tea and coffee will be served after the service to provide families with an opportunity to meet with staff who cared for their relatives as well as to share their experience with other bereaved families.
