Galway University Hospitals are hosting a Virtual Career’s Evening for Secondary School Students this year
A group of health and social care professionals at Galway University Hospitals will be holding a virtual Career’s Evening for secondary school students on Thursday 29 October from 6pm. The event will be hosted on the Webex platform and to take part students can register for free at https://bit.ly/3jmKKK8 Once registered, students will receive a confirmation email with the event details.
The evening will give students an insight into careers in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Nutrition and Dietetics. Students will have an opportunity to speak with qualified professionals in each area who work in Galway University Hospitals. In addition third level students, who are currently undertaking courses for a range of health and social care professions will be available to give an overview of what student life is like and what the courses entail.
Anne Marie Lydon, Physiotherapy Practice Tutor said, ‘’Based on the feedback from secondary school students and guidance counsellors who have taken part in our previous career evenings we know that they find the event very beneficial. Attendees said it provided insights into the daily life of a professional that isn’t obvious from a college prospectus or a course syllabus. This year’s careers evening will be slightly different as it will be a virtual event allowing us to reach a wider audience. We hope we can inspire and motivate the next generation of health and social care professionals.”
The timetable for the presentations by each specialty is as follows:
6pm-6.15pm: Introduction to a Career in Health and Social Care Professions
6.15pm-6.45pm: Occupational Therapy
