New Kitchens and Canteen open at Letterkenny General Hospital

A new Catering Central Production Unit (CPU) which includes kitchen and food storage facilities together with new visitor and staff canteen areas has recently opened at Letterkenny General Hospital. The hospital’s previous catering facilities were extensively damaged by flooding in July 2013.

Roscommon Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation receive funding from Lecarrow Fund

Roscommon Hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Department receive €2,500 funding from the Lecarrow Benevolent Fund Committee.

The Lecarrow Benevolent Committee has presented Elaine Prendergast, General Manager Roscommon Hospital with a cheque for €2,500 for the purchase of a Krank Cycle for use in the hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.

Research staff celebrate International Clinical Trials Day

International Clinical Trials day was celebrated this week in University Hospital Galway. Clinical research nurses from the HRB Clinical Research facility and GUH Clinical Trials Department were available at information stand to discuss and highlight the importance of clinical trials, to provide information and answer any questions that patients had.

Roscommon Hospital receives €7.85 million funding for development of new Rehabilitation Unit

Roscommon Hospital has been approved funding of €7.85 million for the development of a new 20 bed Specialist Rehabilitation Unit which will be located to the rear of the existing hospital building.

Board holds public meeting in Sligo and launch 2014 Annual Report

The Board of the Saolta University Health Care Group today (May 12th 2015) held its fifth public meeting, which took place in Sligo. At the meeting, the Group’s Annual Report for 2014 was presented and accepted by the Board and there was a presentation by Grainne McCann, Manager Sligo Regional Hospital on the Sligo based winning projects at the recent Irish Healthcare Awards.

Type 1 Diabetes Patient Information Evening Tuesday 12th May 2015

The Diabetes Team in Galway are hosting a Type 1 Diabetes Patient Information Evening in conjunction with Croí and Diabetes Ireland on Tuesday 12th May 2015 @ 6:30pm. 

The talks and group sessions will cover such topics as hypoglycaemia, driving and exercise.

10th Annual Teddy Bear Hospital Presentation to Paediatric Department UHG

The Paediatric department at University Hospital Galway were presented with a cheque for €3,000 from the Sláinte Society at NUI Galway, who organise the annual ‘Teddy Bear Hospital’ which took place in NUI Galway on the 22nd and 23rd of January 2015.

GUH Cardiac team carry out new heart valve procedure

The cardiac team at University Hospital Galway were the first in Ireland to introduce the latest technology in cardiac care. Dr. Darren Mylotte at UHG Cardiology Department, implanted the CoreValve® Evolut™ R System for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for the first time in Ireland, positioning UHG at the cutting edge of valvular heart technology.
 

Transition Year students experience life as a junior doctor at the Saolta Simulation Centre

After the success of the inaugural SIMMed School in 2014, over 30 transition year (TY) students from across the West of Ireland attended the Saolta Simulation Centre at University Hospital Galway on Monday 23th March 2015 to experience what it is like to be a junior doctor.
