Dropping off/Collecting patient property at Mayo University Hospital
Due to the ongoing visiting restrictions at Mayo University Hospital it is not possible for family members to visit patients in the hospital, other than exceptional circumstances such as end of life or critical care.
To support patients in the hospital, family members or carers may drop off or collect patient property at the main hospital entrance between 5pm and 6.30pm daily. Family members/carers are kindly requested to limit each drop off to one shopping size bag and to ensure there is no money or other high value items in the bag.
Padraig O’Luanigh, Director of Nursing at the hospital said, “We know how difficult it is for patients and their families at this time while visiting is restricted at the hospital. The visiting restrictions were introduced to reduce footfall in the hospital and reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19. We are trying to balance all our patients’ needs while keeping our patients and our staff as safe as possible.
“During working hours the hospital entrance is very busy with patients attending for outpatient appointments, for surgery and other planned procedures, so we request that families/carers only drop off or collect their bag between 5pm and 6.30pm.
“The hospital is still running the ‘Sending Love’ initiative and family and friends of patients in the hospital are invited to email a letter, photo or video which will be printed, popped into an envelope and delivered to their loved one in hospital. Videos are loaded onto a tablet which is brought to the patient’s bedside to view. To take part in ‘Sending Love’, email sendinglove.muh@hse.ie and include the patient’s name full name, first line of their home address and ward name (if known) in the subject line.”
