Cheque Presentation to the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund at University Hospital Galway

Mr Patrick Cahalan and his wife Caroline from Roscrea, Co Tipperary recently presented a very generous cheque for €14,510 to the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund at University Hospital Galway (UHG). The money was raised by carrying out a sponsored climb of Carrauntoohil with family and friends.

Mr Cahalan thanked staff who made an impact on his life and said, “When I was treated in the hospital in 2015 it was a real eye-opener as I had no idea what went on. I was so well looked after that I felt I had to give something back to the wonderful doctors and nurses in UHG.”

Stephen Coyne, Radiotherapy Service Manager, UHG expressed his gratitude to the Cahalan family and said, “We would like to sincerely thank Patrick, his wife Caroline and also their friends and family for the time and effort they put in to raise such a substantial sum of money for the Cancer Services Patient Comfort Fund. In the past the Patient Comfort Fund has been used to buy TVs for the clinical rooms and comfortable chairs for the waiting areas. These sound like small changes but they are significant for the patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer. This donation will help us do even more to improve the patients’ journey.”
