Advice for Patients attending Sligo University Hospital for scheduled Outpatient appointments

Management at Sligo University Hospital would like to remind patients who are attending outpatient appointments to attend on their own except where they need the support or assistance of a family member or a carer, and to wear a face covering at all times.

Grainne McCann, Hospital Manager said, “Since the start of the pandemic the hospital has put in place a number of measures to make sure that patients can come to the hospital safely. This included moving the main entrance to the Mall side of the hospital to allow us to manage patients attending the hospital for appointments while also managing patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

“Although our society and business has reopened in recent months, the impact of an increase of COVID-19 cases presenting to the hospital has not gone away. We need to continue to reduce the footfall in the hospital to only those patients who are attending for treatment and the staff providing care.

“It is important that patients arrive to their appointment on time and avoid coming early to their appointment. Patients who arrive more than 10 minutes early will be asked to remain in their car until just before their appointment time so we can ensure the numbers of patients waiting at any one time is kept to a minimum. It is also important that patients attend their appointment on their own, again to minimise the number of people waiting. If patients require assistance from a family member or carer for health or mobility reasons they should be accompanied by one person only.

“In addition we are asking patients attending the hospital to wear a face covering, to keep a safe distance and to clean their hands regularly using the hand gel provided.

“If you develop any symptoms of coronavirus prior to your appointment such as a cough, temperature, shortness of breath, loss or change to your sense of smell or taste, please telephone the hospital in advance for advice, using the contact details in the appointment letter.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their ongoing support to help us provide patient care in a safe environment.”
