Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and disease in the world. 1 in every 2 smokers will die from a tobacco related disease, and most smokers lose between 10 to 15 quality life years. This major cause of death, illness, chronic disability and inequality is preventable, yet accounts for 5,500 deaths in Ireland each year.
On Wednesday 15th June at the Radisson Hotel Sligo a special celebration event was held to acknowledge the excellent work that is taking place throughout both the acute hospital sector and the community health services throughout the border and western counties from Donegal to Limerick.

Galway University Hospitals Arts Trust has a series of events programmed for older patients in Galway University Hospitals, Units 5 and 6 in Merlin Park and Roscommon University Hospital. A variety of arts events are scheduled including theatre shows, art workshops and music performances.
