New Care Pathway Provides Vital Supports For Cardiac Patients

Patients availing of the new hospital avoidance pathways for cardiac care in the West of Ireland have praised the enhances in care, as they mark World Heart Day, today September 27th.

The Enhanced Community Care pathway for Cardiology has been up and running since March 2023 in the West of Ireland under the joint governance of the Saolta University Health Care Group and Community Healthcare West.

Saolta University Health Care Group and Galway University Hospitals welcomes progress on surgical hub for the West

The Saolta University Health Care Group and Galway University Hospitals welcome the progress in developing a new surgical hub in the city.

The hub, on the grounds of Merlin Park University Hospital will provide a significant uplift in surgical capacity for the region. It will reduce waiting times for day case procedures by significantly increasing the capacity for elective day case surgery in a dedicated facility.

Work begins on Adult Cystic Fibrosis Out-Patient Department at Galway University Hospitals 

Galway University Hospitals is delighted to announce that work is underway on the new Adult Cystic Out Patient Department.

Once complete, the Adult CF OPD will have sufficient capacity, design features and specification to allow for best practices in Cystic Fibrosis treatment.

The new build will minimise cross infection and enable the Merlin Park University Hospital CF multidisciplinary professional team to provide long-term, recurrent support for ambulatory patients. 

Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today

The Emergency Department (ED) at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) has been extremely busy over the past few days and the hospital is advising that patients who attend ED for routine and non-urgent treatment will experience very long waiting times. 181 people attended the ED yesterday, Monday 18 September, resulting in 34 patient admissions.

National Ambulance Service decontamination demonstration taking place at Mayo University Hospital

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) clinical decontamination team is conducting a demonstration with Mayo University Hospital (MUH) this Tuesday. NAS will set up a clinical decontamination tent at the hospital and provide a full demonstration on clinical decontamination to the staff at MUH. Clinical decontamination may be required at a hospital site for patients who self-present and haven’t been decontaminated at site of an emergency that involved potential exposure to a chemical hazard.
