Letterkenny University Hospital is an acute general and maternity hospital delivering a patient-centred, quality-driven focused service and a wide range of diagnostic and support services. LGH is a teaching hospital with links to the National University of Ireland Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons and the Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Undergraduate Nurse, Midwifery, and AHP training and clinical placements are also provided at the hospital along with post graduate Medical and Nursing education.

New Patient Advice and Liaison Service Coordinator for Letterkenny University Hospital

Letterkenny University Hospital is delighted to announce the appointment of Angela Mc Closkey to the role of Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Coordinator. Angela is from Letterkenny and spent 19 years working as a Radiographer in Letterkenny University Hospital prior to her appointment as PALS Coordinator.

The Irish Heart Foundation has awarded the Silver Happy Heart Award to Letterkenny University Hospital in recognition of the ongoing work at the hospital to promote healthy eating in the workplace.

Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) remains under significant pressure as a result of high attendances along with COVID-19 and flu outbreaks at the hospital.

There were 144 attendances at the Emergency Department yesterday, Thursday 29 December. As of 2pm today there are 31 patients awaiting admission in ED.  Many of those attending need to be admitted for ongoing treatment which is leading to pressure on bed availability. 

Letterkenny University Hospital postponing some elective procedures due to site pressures

Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure with high attendances and long wait times in our Emergency Department in recent days.

All available beds are in use. Every effort is being made to discharge patients who are ready to go home so that beds will become available for patients who need to be admitted, at the earliest opportunity.

Letterkenny University Hospital is extremely busy today

The Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital is under significant pressure today with high attendances and long waiting times. The high number of people attending who need to be admitted for ongoing treatment means that there is pressure on bed availability. This is resulting in significant delays being experienced by patients in the Emergency Department who are waiting for a bed to become available on a ward.
