Letterkenny University Hospital is an acute general and maternity hospital delivering a patient-centred, quality-driven focused service and a wide range of diagnostic and support services. LGH is a teaching hospital with links to the National University of Ireland Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons and the Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Undergraduate Nurse, Midwifery, and AHP training and clinical placements are also provided at the hospital along with post graduate Medical and Nursing education.

Letterkenny University Hospital welcomes publication of HIQA report following inspection

Letterkenny University Hospital welcomes the publication by Health Information Quality Authority (HIQA) of its report into its inspection of three areas at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH). An announced inspection was carried out at the hospital on the 16th and 17th of November 2022. The areas assessed were the Emergency Department, Medical 2 Ward and the Gynaecology Ward.

Today (Monday, April 3 2023), a HSE National Ambulance Service (NAS) led service called Pathfinder, designed to safely keep older people who phone 112/999 in their own home rather than taking them to a hospital emergency department, goes live in Letterkenny.

Letterkenny University Hospital remains extremely busy today with long wait times at the Emergency Department

Following a very busy bank holiday weekend, the Emergency Department at Letterkenny University Hospital remains under significant pressure today.

The ED saw a record 203 attendances yesterday, Monday March 20th.

The hospital is advising that patients who attend ED for routine and non-urgent treatment will experience very long waiting times.

As always, people who do require emergency care are encouraged to attend EDs where they will be prioritised.
