Galway University Hospitals Develops a Mobile App for Diabetes and Pregnancy

The Atlantic Diabetes in Pregnancy Team (Atlantic DIP) at Galway University Hospitals (GUH) have developed a mobile app for women who have diabetes in pregnancy (type 1, type 2 or gestational). Now women can have reliable information about preparing for pregnancy and caring for themselves during and after pregnancy at their fingertips. The information which is designed to be viewed on any mobile phone with Internet access can be viewed at www.whatsupmum.ie/diabetes.

The Atlantic DIP team have linked up with whatsupmum.ie, an educational website on pregnancy, which is endorsed by the HSE, to develop this content for mobile phones which focus on the issue of diabetes in pregnancy.

The website and mobile app includes videos of the University Hospitals Team giving practical advice and information to women with diabetes.

Professor Fidelma Dunne, Consultant Endocrinologist at GUH is one of the medical practitioners who features on the videos and she said, “Our aim is to provide easy access to expert practical advice which can be accessed from any location.”

“Feedback on the new website and mobile app has been very positive and we are delighted to be able to use the features of mobile technology to benefit our patients by making information easily accessible.”

The Diabetes and Pregnancy information and videos may be viewed on the website - www.whatsupmum.ie/diabetes.
