Health Services in County Galway are advising on the importance of practising public health behaviours in light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the West.

The vaccination centre at Clifden Community School commenced operations on Tuesday 06 July to support the delivery of the vaccination programme and to supplement the vaccination work being carried out by staff in the Ballybrit vaccination centre, by GPs and by community pharmacies.

Updated Maternity Visiting Guidance for Partners at University Hospital Galway

In line with recent national guidance on visiting (published on hpsc.ie), the Maternity Department at University Hospital Galway is facilitating the following access for birthing partners/parents since Monday 05 July:

·       Birthing partners of women in labour are welcome to attend and partners can attend a caesarean section done under regional anaesthesia. Partners will be subject to screening questions and wearing PPE.

University Hospital Galway and Portiuncula University Hospital are extremely busy today (09 July) which has resulted in pressure on bed availability in the hospitals.

We regret that patients are currently experiencing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Departments to an acute bed. We know these delays are very difficult for our patients and their families.

Neonatal ICU donation from One Year Olds AJ and Dylan

AJ and Dylan’s Galway NICU fundraiser was organised by Jessica Galligan and Tony Moran (AJ’s parents) and Anne McLoughlin and Billy Browne (Dylan’s parents) to raise money for a family room in the Galway Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Visiting Restrictions eased at Portiuncula University Hospital

From Monday 5th July 2021, Portiuncula University Hospital will be easing general visiting restrictions and facilitating visits to patients in the ward areas by appointment. Appointments will be staggered across all ward areas each day between 3:00pm and 4:30pm.

First vaccines to be administered from Clifden Vaccination Centre this week

A new COVID-19 vaccination satellite centre in Clifden, County Galway is opening this week to serve the communities of West Galway / Connemara. The centre is located in Clifden Community School and the first vaccines will be administered from Tuesday 06 July as part of a phased opening.

Vaccination teams from Saolta University Health Care Group will be administering vaccines one or two days per week, depending on demand.

The vaccination centre at Carndonagh commenced operations on Wednesday 30 June to support the delivery of the vaccination programme and to supplement the vaccination work being carried out by our staff in the LYIT vaccination centre, by GPs and by community pharmacies.

First vaccines to be administered from Carndonagh Vaccination Centre this week

On Wednesday (30 June) the first vaccines will be administered in the vaccination centre based in Carndonagh Community School by staff from Saolta University Health Care Group and Community Healthcare Organisation Area 1, as part of a phased opening of the centre.

Visiting Restrictions eased at Sligo University Hospital

Sligo University Hospital, in line with national guidance, will be implementing changes to visiting arrangements with effect from Monday 28 June 2021.

From Monday, the hospital will be facilitating one visitor per inpatient each day. Visiting times will be from 6pm to 8pm each day. Only one visit per patient per day can be facilitated at the present time.

Visits must be pre-arranged by family members / visitors, who should contact the relevant ward or Unit in advance.
