Walk in COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics 11 - 17 October

Walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinics continue this week at centres across the West and North West. Anyone aged 12 upwards who needs a vaccine is invited to come to a walk-in clinic for either a first or second dose. 

New Innovative Information System for Cancer Treatment Implemented at UHG

University Hospital Galway is the first designated cancer centre to roll out and implement the National Cancer Information System (NCIS) which will be implemented in all 26 hospitals delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy nationally.

Relocation of Sligo Vaccination Centre

The COVID-19 Vaccination Centre in Sligo is in the process of relocating from IT Sligo to the Sligo Racecourse and the first clinics are due to take place in the new location next week.

Candle Lighting Ceremony at UHG - Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day takes place each year on 15 October. As part of this global initiative to recognise, acknowledge and  remember babies who have passed away due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, and other causes of infant loss, University Hospital Galway will hold a virtual candle lighting memorial ceremony on Friday 15 October at 6.30pm in the hospital chapel which will lead into the international wave of light at 7pm.

Portiuncula University Hospital launch colostrum harvesting packs during National Breastfeeding Week

During National Breastfeeding Week, the Maternity Department at Portiuncula University Hospital launched an Antenatal Expressing of Colostrum information leaflet and accompanying Colostrum or ‘Liquid Gold’ Harvesting Packs for pregnant women.

Top tips for breastfeeding from the Maternity Department in Portiuncula University Hospital

National Breastfeeding Week is marked each year from 01 to 07 October, it is an opportunity to discuss the importance of breastfeeding as the normal and healthy way to feed babies and young children. Breastfeeding gives babies the best start for a healthy life and it protects both mother and baby, the health benefits are undisputed. It is also crucial that women are empowered, enabled and supported on their breastfeeding journey.
