Statement by Bill Maher, Group CEO on Maternity Services within the Group

In response to a series of reports into Ireland’s maternity services including the HIQA report*, last year the HSE established a National Group to oversee the implementation of a series of recommendations arising from these reports. This group has developed implementation plans for 2014 to build on the many initiatives that are already underway in maternity services and to implement the recommendations.
 

Endoscopy Project at Roscommon Hospital

Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly TD visited Roscommon Hospital today (Monday 12 May) to view plans for the construction of a new Endoscopy Department at the hospital.
 
The tendering process has now reached the evaluation stage and it is expected that the contractor will be appointed to the project in the coming weeks. An allocation of €5.5m has been approved for this development. Construction is expected to commence in June 2014 and will take one year to build.

Official Opening of the new Pharmacy Department at Letterkenny General Hospital by Minister of State for Primary Care, Mr Alex White TD

Letterkenny General Hospital is delighted to announce that its new Pharmacy Department was officially opened by Minister of State for Primary Care, Mr Alex White TD today (Monday 12 May).
 
The project to develop a new Pharmacy Department had been designed and planned before the flood last July, but had to be put on hold to allow the re-instatement of patient services at the hospital after the flood. The cost of the new development was €550,000.
 

Portiuncula Hospital Celebrates National Midwives Week

‘Promoting Safe Care for Mother and Baby’, was the theme of National Midwives week which took place from 28 April to 02 May.
 
Portiuncula Hospital hosted a number of events to celebrate the unique midwifery contribution to the high quality and excellent health outcomes for mothers and babies.
 

Additional Car Parking Spaces at Sligo Regional Hospital

Sligo Regional Hospital has announced that an additional 220 car parking spaces are available at the hospital from this week.
 
The new car park along with the new ring road around the hospital are part of the enabling works for the proposed new Surgical and Emergency Department Block.
 

University Hospital Galway’s Children's Remembrance Day Committee invites Parents to include their Loved Ones in a Special Mass of Remembrance

The Children's Remembrance Day Committee, University Hospital Galway is inviting parents and their families who have experienced the death of a child before birth, shortly after birth or at a later stage to remember their loved ones in a special Mass of Remembrance, which will take place on Sunday 18 May in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Oranmore.
 

Booklet for Advanced Nurse/Midwife Practitioners launched at Galway University Hospitals

A booklet outlining the work of Registered and candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioners (RANP and ANPc) and Registered and candidate Advanced Midwife Practitioners (RAMP and ANMPc) working at Galway University Hospitals and at other hospitals in the West, along with RANPs working in Community Health Services, was launched in Galway recently.

New Family Rooms for the friends and family of patients in the ICU at Galway University Hospitals

The two family rooms in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in University Hospital Galway have been recently refurbished for use by the families of those who have loved ones receiving treatment in the unit. The refurbishment of these rooms was carried out by Máire Ní Bhriain and the family and friends of her late daughter, Sadhbh Ní Bhrádaigh.
