The family of the late Mary McGuckin, Shantalla have generously donated €1,120 to the Intensive Care Comfort Fund, University Hospital Galway. Mary who was a patient of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), UHG, sadly passed away last July and in recognition of the excellent support and care Mary received during her time in ICU, Mary’s family and friends organised the first annual Mary McGuckin Memorial Swim which took place on 01 January.
University Hospital Galway (UHG) are the first to play host to an inspiring exhibition that will be touring Ireland over the coming months, having received national attention earlier last year. ‘Out the Other Side: Stories of Breast Cancer Survival’ is a collection of individual stories and photographs of Irish women who have survived breast cancer. The exhibition was developed to offer encouragement to other breast cancer survivors and women living with the disease in Ireland.

Visiting restrictions continue to remain in place at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar due to a number of patients displaying symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting caused by Norovirus, commonly known as the winter vomiting bug. To help curtail the spread of Norovirus, Mayo University Hospital is appealing to the public to adhere strictly to visiting restrictions and hygiene guidelines and help stop the spread of the virus to vulnerable patients.
Minister for Health, Dr Leo Varadkar TD today (12 February 2016) officially launched the Sligo Medical Academy, an NUI Galway partnership with Saolta University Health Care Group and Sligo University Hospital for the training of doctors. The Academy is housed in a purpose-designed facility located within the premises of Sligo University Hospital.

Management at Roscommon University Hospital is advising that visiting restrictions are in place at the hospital due to the presence of influenza cases.
The hospital is seeking the cooperation of the general public in preventing the spread of flu by adhering to the following guidelines:
• Visitors are asked not to visit the hospital unless it is absolutely essential and only at designated visiting time 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm

The HSE was informed of two unrelated cases of Zika virus infection in two adults who are currently well and fully recovered. Both individuals have a history of travel to a Zika affected country. These are the first cases of Zika virus infection confirmed in Ireland. Neither case is at risk of pregnancy.
