Saolta University Healthcare Group provides a comprehensive range of Medical, Surgical, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services to emergency and elective patients on an inpatient, outpatient and day care basis across the West and North West of Ireland.

Galway University Hospitals currently has the following vacancy:

Registrar in Chemical Pathology

Range of duties including:


Laboratory based duties: This includes clinical liaison with service users, clinical audit, clinical risk management, research and education

Direct clinical duties: The SHO will be expected to attend the chemical pathology led lipid clinic and will have opportunities to participate in endocrinology, diabetes and other out-patient clinics under the direction of the consultant chemical pathologist

Other duties and responsibilities may also be undertaken, as appropriate


Each successful candidate must hold Registration with the Irish Medical Council with the Irish Medical Council with effect from the 13th July, 2015.


Desirable but not essential criteria include a higher degree e.g. MSc, MD, or PhD in a related area, a postgraduate medical qualification e.g. MRCPI, previous clinical experience in endocrinology, diabetes, renal medicine, lipidology and/or previous clinical experience in laboratory medicine.
