Arus Breffni Community Nursing Unit celebrates Golden Jubilee

There was a day of celebration and remembrance for residents, family members and staff at Arus Breffni in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim on Friday October 17th 2025.
The day saw residents, staff past and present and members of the Manorhamilton community come together to remember all those who have lived and worked in Arus Breffni over the past fifty years. It was an event of song, music and dance and a special video was compiled for those present about Arus Breffni.
Arus Breffni Community Nursing Unit, which provides residential care for 25 residents, has been operational for 50 years. Construction on the building commenced in 1974 and the building opened in 1975. As well as being a residential facility, it provided breakfast and hot meals to the homeless and Christmas dinners for those who were isolated or alone.
When residents move to Arus Breffni, they are facilitated and encouraged by staff to continue to play an active part in their communities. Those who attended day centres at Bee Park or in Drumkeeran continue to do so. Other residents take part in community activities such as attending Church, going for coffee in the local coffee shop or attending the Friday market in Manorhamilton. Every two weeks residents visit local places of interest such as the No.45 Day Centre in Sligo or even a drive to Glencar Lake.
John Fitzmaurice, IHA Manager Sligo Leitrim, South Donegal, West Cavan said “I’d like to thank our residents, their families and the local community for their involvement in making Arus Breffni a wonderful place to live for our residents. It wouldn’t be the place it is without them.
“I’d also like to thank our dedicated staff, past and present for 50 years of providing comfort, dignity and respect to residents. Their work has touched countless lives and deserves deep appreciation.
“Finally I would like to acknowledge all the services and agencies who have provided and continue to provide support to Arus Breffni.”
