  Post Specific Information

Galway University Hospital comprises of University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital, both located within Galway city on the West Coast of Ireland. The Saolta University Health Care Group was established in 2013 and has one overall Group Management Team, turnover of €820 million and operates with 1,781 beds and staffing of 8,694 WTE.

Galway University Hospital is the tertiary referral center and is the largest hospital with over 500 beds. It is also a designated supra-regional cancer service provider meeting the needs of all the counties along the Western seaboard and towards the midlands from Donegal to North Tipperary.

 

Our Academic Partner is the National University of Ireland Galway.

 

This post is a key post and post holder will work in collaboration with other professionals and service managers delivering excellent integrated patient centred care and achieving the service goals of the Saolta University Hospital Group.

       Eligibility Criteria

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

 

  1. Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

 

  1. Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

And

  1. Have 10 years post registration nursing experience and 5 years nursing management experience at a minimum of CNM 2 level of which 3 must have been in an acute setting.

And

  1. Possess a post graduate qualification at not less than level 8 (QQI) in health care or management related area.

And

  1. Candidate must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability the proper discharge of the office.

 

Annual registration

Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the General Nursing Division of the Nurses & Midwives Register maintained by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character

 

Age

Age restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.
